About this event

Come early (12:30) for light refreshments.

Please join us for a presentation from Matthias S. Mueller, PhD. Professor Mueller will outline how the IT Center at RWTH Aachen University operates HPC systems, conducts research in programming HPC systems, and provides WLAN and E-Mail to more than 45,000 students and 10,000 employees.

This talk will cover:

  • the provisioning and use of cloud services;
  • how AI-driven research benefits from general research data management at the university;
  • how HPC procurement and operations benefits from research regarding TCO of HPC;
  • how widespread use of HPC advances research.

He received his PhD in Computational Physics from Stuttgart University in 2001. From 1999 to 2005, he worked at the High Performance Computing Center (HLRS) in Stuttgart, Germany, which he left as a deputy director. From 2005 until 2012, he was deputy director and CTO at the Center for Information Services and High Performance Computing (ZIH) at Technische Universität Dresden. His research interests include parallel programming models and standards, software development tools, especially correctness checking and computational science on high performance computers. He published more than 70 peer-reviewed articles in these areas. He is a member of GI, ACM, ACM SIGHPC, the German Physical Society (DPG and  SPEC’s High Performance Group. Since 2009 he is chair of the steering committee of the International Workshop on OpenMP (IWOMP). RWTH Aachen University is a member of the OpenMP Architecture Review Board and the group of Prof. Mueller is actively involved in the development of the OpenMP parallel programming standard.
