3D Digitization with Jeff Rogers and Tassie Gniady.

Abstract:

3D printing is one of the hottest sectors in technology. It enables users to fabricate personal, engineering, artistic, historic, and scientific objects like never before. But before fabricating, users must create a 3D model built digitally using 3D CAD or acquired from the real world using 3D scanning, photogrammetry, or drones. Research Technologies has been working with 3D models and supporting advanced research in this area for more than a decade – well before 3D printers were mainstream. This session will detail the equipment and workflows available to the IU community to enable 3D scanning and printing. In this session, you'll also explore photogrammetry as it relates to the creation of 3D models of real world objects.

Who should attend?

Are you involved with the humanities or creative activities at IU? This informational series will show you all the services UITS has to offer, from 3D object acquisition to virtual reality for education and research. The series is presented by a host of experts from the UITS Advanced Visualization Lab and Cyberinfrastructure for Digital Humanities & Creative Activities group as well as guest lecturers.

The format of the weekly series at IU Bloomington includes introductions to topics, hands-on expeditions, and lectures by people doing cutting-edge work at IU.

The seminar series is hosted by Tassie Gniady, manager, Cyberinfrastructure for Digital Humanities & Creative Activities, Research Technologies - a division of University Information Technology Services and a center in the Pervasive Technology Institute at Indiana University.

The Supercomputing for Everyone Series (S4ES) aims to bring more users into the realm of advanced computing, whether it be visualization, computation, analytics, storage, or any related discipline.
