About this event

Services for Digital Humanities & Creative Activities workshop series:
Are you involved with the humanities or creative activities at IU? This informational series will show you all the services UITS has to offer, from 3D object acquisition to virtual reality for teaching and art education, presented by a host of experts from the UITS Advanced Visualization Lab and Cyberinfrastructure for Digital Humanities & Creative Activities group.

The format of the weekly series at IU Bloomington includes hands-on introductions to topics, lectures by people doing cutting-edge work at IU, and open sessions for exploring your questions and approaches.

The workshop is hosted by Tassie Gniady, coordinator, Cyberinfrastructure for Digital Humanities & Creative Activities, Research Technologies - a division of University Information Technology Services.

The Supercomputing for Everyone Series (S4ES) of training workshops aims to bring more users into the realm of and train users in the use of advanced computing, whether it be visualization, computation, analytics, storage, or any related discipline.

Abstract:
Augmented reality is an exciting field that blends the real world with a virtual and synthetic world. The most popular devices supporting augmented reality include mobile phones (think Pokémon GO!) or headsets such as the Microsoft Hololens. In this session, staff from the UITS Advanced Visualization Lab discuss the latest technologies and share example projects and workflows that will help you begin using augmented reality. Virtual reality involves the use of 3D graphics and advanced interactions to immerse a real-world user in a simulated environment. Recent innovations such as the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Gear VR, and Google Cardboard have disrupted the virtual reality sector. Come learn about virtual reality opportunities here at IU in the reality labs, courses, and summer camps, and how you can make best use of these new technologies.
