Going remote: IU releases findings from survey on spring 2020 eLearning

Four recommendations help faculty plan for continued remote instruction.

In mid-March, the COVID-19 pandemic forced IU and many other colleges and universities to suspend in-person instruction and deliver all instruction remotely for the remainder of the semester.

In response to this transition, IU’s eLearning Research and Practice Lab, a unit within IU’s Pervasive Technology Institute, deployed a full-census survey of all undergraduates and instructors across all IU campuses, as part of the IU-led “Mega-Study of COVID-19 Impact in Higher Education.”

Want some research experience?

Opportunity for women combines technology with research in many fields.

Experience research in a supportive, collaborative environment. The 2020-21 Emerging Scholars Research Experience for Undergraduate Women is now accepting applications from first- and second-year women at IU Bloomington with little or no research experience.

Students are matched with faculty research projects based on the students’ interests and fields of study. Each project has a significant technology component. The program is sponsored by the Center of Excellence for Women & Technology.

IUanyWare user profile reset coming in August

Maintenance will improve performance.

UITS will reset all IUanyWare user profiles on Aug. 14. The first time you login after the maintenance:

  • IUanyWare may take slightly longer to load while it rebuilds your user profile—after that, IUanyWare should load faster than it did before maintenance.
  • You'll need to reconfigure personal settings for some of the applications you use.

This maintenance will improve application performance, printing capabilities, and mapping of your IU cloud storage resources.

Keeping the mysteries of the universe safe from hackers

IU provides cybersecurity for National Radio Astronomy Observatory’s deep-space discoveries.

The National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) has partnered with IU’s Research Security Operations Center (ResearchSOC) to understand and detect threats to its instruments and data.

Funded by the National Science Foundation and led by IU, ResearchSOC distributes the research cybersecurity capabilities of IU, Duke University, the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center, and the University of California San Diego.

Scientific research is a prime target for malware and active cyberattacks, witnessed by recent attempts to hack into COVID-19 research and a 2017 cyberattack against an Australian research telescope.
