Unizin is a consortium with the mission "to improve the learning experience by providing digital teaching and learning resources that improve access, affordability and learner success," according to information on its website. "We're committed to building an open and scalable environment through collaboration, data, and standards."
As a result of the new partnership, Unizin's 22 consortium members will be able to offer their students savings of up to 50 percent on courseware and 70 percent on e-texts, depending on discipline and volume. Students will have access to materials on the first day of class, and will also be able to print materials.
"We at Indiana University aim to leverage technology, combined with the scope and scale of our eight campuses, to lower costs for students," said Stacy Morrone, associate vice president for learning technologies at Indiana University, in a prepared statement. "This agreement between Cengage and Unizin allows our professors to leverage the purchasing power of not only our campuses, but all Unizin institutions when choosing Cengage content for their courses. I am excited that students and faculty at IU will be able to take advantage of Cengage's digital offerings at a great price."
Materials will be delivered via Unizin Engage, the consortium's e-reading platform. Unizin Engage provides faculty and administrators with data and learning analytics designed to offer insights into student interactions and improve assessment and instruction.
"We are excited to provide access to these preferred instructional materials from Cengage," said Robin Littleworth, chief operating officer at Unizin, in a prepared statement. "Coupled with the interaction data from the materials, Unizin can provide members richer data for research and instructional improvement use."
