App store for online services wins TechPoint Mira Award

Innovative app store approach to online services recognized as one of the state's best

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The development team for One.IU, Indiana University’s new app store for online services, received the Tech Services Award at the 15th annual TechPoint Mira Awards on Saturday. One.IU won in the "IT to Support the Business" category for its streamlined access to key resources, such as grades, bursar bills, and financial systems. Each year, the Mira Awards honor the best of tech in Indiana.

This is the second consecutive Mira Award win for IU. In 2013, the university received the Technology in Education Excellence & Innovation Award for IUanyWare, the cloud software service that gives IU students, faculty and staff on-demand access to more than 200 applications. (Read more:

"I’m incredibly proud of the One.IU team members who worked so hard to simplify the online service experience for IU faculty, staff, and students," said Brad Wheeler, IU vice president for IT and CIO. "One.IU is about saving time for each member of the IU community as they use IU services — it brings the idea of an app store and 'search, click, done' to things from payroll to checking grades. These back-to-back Mira Awards again affirm the IT innovation at IU."

Rob Lowden, IU associate vice president for enterprise software, accepted the award for the team. "Winning the 2014 MIRA Tech Services Award is an incredible accomplishment given the competition of so many well-established and up-and-coming companies in the state," he said. "One.IU is an incredibly innovative product that will revolutionize the delivery of traditional business services, and will greatly assist with IU retention and attainment."

One.IU supersedes OneStart, the web portal developed in 2001 to provide wide-ranging access to IU services. OneStart served the university well, but the IU community needed a more simplified approach. One.IU replaces navigation with search in ways that were previously impossible.

In addition, One.IU features pages for all enterprise services — complete with descriptions, screen shots, videos, and a button to launch applications. The service also lets users provide ratings and reviews, so the One.IU development team can improve apps in real time.
