Improved Wi-Fi in the classroom

Upgrades have made wireless more reliable and accessible in classrooms at IU Bloomington and IUPUI.

Major upgrades to the IU Secure network have made wireless more reliable -- and more accessible -- in classrooms at IU Bloomington and IUPUI. These improvements will help instructors access online resources during lectures and discussions.

Please keep in mind that while IU Secure is much improved, it still has limitations. If you plan to use Wi-Fi in the classroom, please email UITS with the class location and size at netdata@indiana.edu. We'll make a preliminary assessment of your needs, and then add network connections or re-route resources during your class period.

To help boost wireless in your classroom:

  • Ask students to turn off unnecessary Wi-Fi devices, such as smartphones and iPods
  • Avoid time-sensitive activities such as tests and quizzes
  • Encourage students to update wireless drivers
  • Ask students to download large files outside of class
