On August 22, IU VP for IT and CIO Brad Wheeler formally received the 2012 CIO 100 award, presented by IDG's CIO magazine. The 25th annual award recognizes organizations around the world that exemplify operational and strategic excellence in information technology.

The CIO 100 commended IU's innovative eTexts initiative, which saves students money on the costs of digital textbooks and online course materials. Wheeler led a new model of partnerships with leading publishers and Indiana-based Courseload.com, and the model is now being piloted and expanded at other institutions.

"For 25 years now, the CIO 100 awards have honored the innovative use of technology to deliver genuine business value," said Maryfran Johnson, editor in chief of CIO magazine and events. "Our 2012 winners are an outstanding example of the transformative power of IT to drive everything from revenue growth to competitive advantage."
