IU's Kuali Rice upgrade improves university workflow systems

Indiana University is pleased to announce its recent upgrade to Kuali Rice version 2.1.1. The new version brings additional features and improvements to a software system that touches vital university functions every day.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.- Indiana University is pleased to announce its recent upgrade to Kuali Rice version 2.1.1. The new version brings additional features and improvements to a software system that touches vital university functions every day.

Also known within IU as the OneStart Workflow service, Kuali Rice is used by a range of IU offices and applications, including Travel, Timekeeping, the Electronic Procurement and Invoicing Center (EPIC), Human Resources Management Systems (HRMS) eDocs, OneStart, IU Mobile and IU Calendar.

"IU is the first institution to deploy KR v2.1.1 to such a diverse and demanding mix of applications and services," said Rob Lowden, IU associate vice president of enterprise software. "This upgrade reinforces the substantial value, savings and functionality that are continually derived from IU's leadership, engagement and participation in community source development."

New features in Kuali Rice version 2.1.1 include:

  • Version compatibility, including a stronger suite of web service interfaces
  • Kuali Rapid Application Development, a modern web app development platform
  • Kuali Rule Management System, to define, maintain and execute business rules for functions within applications

Kuali Rice is a product of the Kuali Foundation, a non-profit that supports the development of open-source administrative software for the higher education community. IU is a founding partner of the organization, and IU Vice President for Information Technology & CIO Brad Wheeler currently serves as chair.
